Vacations tips for your next trip to Disney

As I am thinking how much I want summer vacations to be here I think, Walt Disney World is always a summer vacation. I have been to Disney World once before but am thinking about going back and working there more and more. I found a very informational website giving travelers ten tips on how to travel and dine at Walt Disney World. I have posted the tips and then talked about them in more of a travelers language.

http://www.explore-disney-resorts.com/disney-world-tips.html

We all need help planning our vacation!

Tip #1: Plan Ahead and find the package deals
Tip #2: You can not do it all
Tip #3: Book Disney Reservations
Tip #4: Disney World Transportation = Free
Tip #5: It is hot, plan for the weather
Tip #6: Make dining reservations before you leave home
Tip #7: Make your itinerary ahead of time
Tip #8: Want cheaper park tickets? Plan ahead and buy the appropriate park tickets
Tip #9: Keep in mind what time of year you are traveling to Disney
Tip #10: Make a budget and stick to it.

All of these tips are very helpful even for a Disney traveler. I think these tips would have been very helpful for my family and I when we traveled so I wanted to be able to help other travelers be prepared and help them remember the simple things that you would have the potential of forgetting. A lot of these tips can be summarized to PLAN AHEAD but there are other things that can help travelers as well. As I read the website and think about the tips they all have double meanings and this is how I interpreted them and explain them in travelers language.

  • #1: If you are going to multiple parks use the deals and save money
  • #2: Unless you want to be running around like crazy people pick your top attractions and do those and not everything else
  • #3: Use the resources that Disney provides so you are not worrying while on vacation
  • #4: No car no problem! Use the transportation to save money
  • #5: Since it is quite the weather change for most people make sure to shower, drink water, and stay hydrated
  • #6: Again when dining out having a reservation will just make the vacation less hectic
  • #7: When you have a schedule prior you are more likely to get everything you wanted to get done accomplished
  • #8: Know what you want to see and go to and make sure to buy the correct tickets
  • #9: Christmas and Halloween are busy times at Disney but they also have extended times and awesome parades and fireworks. It all depends on what you want to see and do.
  • #10: When you plan ahead and make an itinerary and a budget your vacation will be the best that you could imagine
I really think that theses tips are some of the best things to think about while planning your vacation to Disney World so that you enjoy your time and your memories and make sure your 'Dreams Come True.'

Feel Good Opportunities that Disney has to offer

When looking for a company that I want to work for I am not only looking at salary, benefits, and paid time off. I want more from the business that I work from and spend the most time at. What I want from my future employer is for them to be able to give me the opportunities to help others and have ways for the company and its employees to volunteer or make a difference in someone else's life. The Walt Disney Company does this.

As I discovered this additional characteristic that Disney has to offer I have a larger drive to want to work for them someday. When I was researching what Disney has to offer I found the public affairs website which is where I discovered all the extra stuff that Disney is doing.  http://publicaffairs.disneyland.com/

One of the first thing that I discovered was the fact that Disneyland offered a two day event where they did a synopsis with nonprofits called "Discover Together" where they had building blocks to strengthen relationships that help children thrive. http://publicaffairs.disneyland.com/discover-together-symposium-offers-nonprofits-nationwide-building-blocks-to-strengthen-relationships-that-help-kids-thrive/ This article on the public affairs website was very interesting and had a lot of great things to say about Disney and how they are helping others. I am always looking at what the company offers when looking for a job and working for Disney has more perks then I thought.

Disneyland also has a program called VoluntEARS where you can apply for the support from the characters or other Disney representatives. They mostly focus on opportunities involving families and children but they have also done a lot of work with blood drives, Toys-for-Tots, and Adopt a Family campaign. I love to participate in event planning and these events would satisfy my need and love to help people and plan events.

Another 'give back' opportunity that Walt Disney World is taking part in is sending different princess and Disney characters to schools to read to the children. Princess Belle read to a group of preschoolers in Osceola County. This is a great way for the employees to get out into the community and share their abilities and talents to the children that are looking up to them. http://wdwnews.com/releases/2014/02/17/princess-belle-reads-to-osceola-county-preschoolers/ This is part of the WEE Read Early Literacy and Math Program that was started by Wee Read. This is an awesome thing for Disney to get involved in and companies like Disney to show support for the community.

I found all of these opportunities very inspiring and something that is very important to me when looking for a career and when supporting different companies. This information makes me want to work for Disney more to be able to help others, use my skills and abilities, and love the life and career that I have.

This is all for today on the 'feel good' opportunities that Disney has to offer.

Working To Make Dreams Come True

When I started college and was asked by many people,"What do you want to do after college?" I could not answer that question for a very long time but after being in college a couple years I really started to think about it and what I am passion about and how I could have a job in public relations and enjoy it because I am passionate. When I received anopportunity to write an article for my potential dream job I was very excited to be able to talk to the social media manager for Disney Land. This job is something that I would love to do and I wrote an article about a day in the life of a social media manager at Disney. This article was posted in a newsletter magazine for a student organization, Legacy PR. I will posted here as well to be able to show a day in the life of one of the public relations jobs that Disney has to offer.

Every college student is always asked the same questions. What do you want to do after graduation? Or What do you plan to do with your major? Well for me the answer is simple. I would like to work for the world renowned company of Walt Disney.
Matt Prince is the Social Media Manager at Walt Disney Land. Prince has held this position for eight months now. He thoroughly enjoys his job and loves to know that people all over the world are seeing his work through Facebook and Twitter.

Prince does not fully agree with the saying that it’s not what you know it’s who you know. He has a different way of saying it.
“Who you know opens the door, but it is what you know that blows the door off its hinges,” Prince expressed.
Prince describes his work as ever-changing and always exciting. He also stated that no two days are the same at Disney.
Prince loves to work for such an amazing company and especially enjoys his current position where he can step right outside his office and he walk into Disney Land. With his office and work place being so close Prince has the opportunity to see and interact with the guests all the time. Prince’s favorite part of his job as the Social Media Manager is that he can engage with the guests face to face every day. He also enjoys being able to walk around the park and see the difference that they are making to all of the different guests. These assets make Prince’s current position one that he looks forward to everyday.
Prince is a true fan of Disney and thinks that anyone who has the dream to work for Disney needs to be a huge fan and make sure that they are always keeping that dream in mind. Prince also made it clear that building relationships and networking is key to find your “in” at a company that you strive to work for.
“First you must plant the seed by networking with the person, then you water the seed by making additional contacts to them and hopefully it will grow and sprout into something awesome that you have always wanted,” said Prince.

This advice can be related to any career but the advice and experience that Prince described has only strengthened my dream of being employed with the Disney Company.  The career and opportunities that Disney can offer fit the dream that I have had since a kid to be able to work for the Disney Company. To have the experience to talk and interview a current Disney employee makes the dream seem reachable and an experience that could be mine sometime within my career. I will go through my public relations career with the hope in my mind that someday I will be able to say that I work for the greatest company in the world, Disney.

This is the most influential part of the article that talks about working for Disney. Reading these quotes and experiences again I know even more that I wan to work for the company that makes dreams come true, Disney.

The Opportunities are Endless

With in the corporation of Disney there is a wide variety of jobs and duties that need to be done to make 'dreams come true.' Even when I narrow down the job characteristics to communications, public relations, and marketing there are still a huge variety of jobs. The array of jobs stretch from doing public relations for the parks to the movies and the characters and all the things that the Disney corporation own. I am interested in the hospitality sector of Disney so from here on out with this blog I will talk about the public relations opportunities with in the hospitality sector, meaning the parks and resorts.

The first opportunity that I will show all the viewers is the full time opportunity in the communication/public relations and marketing sector. Currently there are nine job postings. I have looked at this page before and there have been many more postings and some times less but that is all about what Disney has to offer. With in this search there are opportunities do be a manager or specialist for the marketing and communication sector for the hospitality entity of the major corporation of Disney. Like I said before these posts are always changing when they hire, promote, or fire employees.

This video talks about a lot of the opportunities that Disney has to offer and how most of the professionals working for Disney started loving Disney when they were children and when one thing made the passion that these professionals have in their jobs today.

The next opportunity that I will highlight on is the variety of internships that Disney has to offer. I did the same characteristics to narrow down the search of using the hospitality sectors and communication/public relations and I got thirty-two search results. These are mostly seasonal or a six month internships. These opportunities are offered to current students and also recent graduates. The qualifications are listed on the Disney careers website pasted above.

The final opportunity that I will talk about is Disney's College Internship opportunity. This is an experience that students and recent graduates can apply and work inside the park. These would include jobs including custodian, food and beverage, characters, and may more that making the guests' dreams come true. These opportunities are received by students that apply and go through the extensive questions and interview process. This is also an experience that lasts anywhere from four (August through December) and six (June through December) months. This experience would be all about the customer service aspect of working for Disney. There are a lot opportunities of where you could work and be in. There are also a lot of videos and information here at the main website. http://cp.disneycareers.com/en/default/

This is all for today. I hope the information is useful for a potential public relation professionals wanting a career at Disney.

Why Disney!

As I begin this blog I would like to explain myself and why Disney is so important to me. I have always loved everything about Disney. Examples of my reasoning for the passion are going to my first movie in theaters, "Hercules", going to the Disney store and just  looking at all the figurines and toys that I would not be able to get but it still made me very happy. I also have a major love for all the movies that Disney produced especially the classics. Currently I am still a fan and would love to work for this company in the hospitality entity doing public relations for this amazing organization, Disney.

When I was younger I went to Walt Disney World in Florida with my dad and two sisters. When I was there I could not get enough of the atmosphere and the experience. We would just be walking around and multiple workers and 'dream makers' were there to provide us with whatever we needed. The experience that I received is one that I would love to give to other guests as they travel to the parks and stay in the resorts.

I have wanted to work for Disney after I heard about the internship experience that Disney has to offer. This would be working for the hospitality entity inside the parks or resorts. I could possibly be placed in any sort of area with in those two entities but I would be able to get my foot in the door and work my way up to be a public relations practitioner for the Disney hospitality entity.

This blog will be utilized to help me get to know what is being said about Disney and their current public relations skills. I will also use this to connect with influential professionals that are involved with the Disney company. I will have a variety of posts and information that can help me understand and helps others that are in my situation. I am very excited to get started with some influential content and to learn what Disney has to offer.
