Hospitality in Disney: Hotel style

When talking about the hospitality sector of Walt Disney World it is not only the parks it is the hotel and resorts that Disney has to offer. Whether you are planning a trip to Walt Disney World or just want to know what all the talk is about this post will be very useful to you. I have found a very informational, helpful and fun video that gives great information on Disney's hospitality sector of resorts.

This video explains all the necessary information that you need for Walt Disney World resorts. This has information on when everything was built, renovations, and why it was built the was it was. I found this very informational and gave light to how detailed the Disney Company is.

Walt Disney World Resort Hotels

The Walt Disney Company takes a lot of pride and dedication in the placement, structure and theme of their resorts. This is very noticeable whether you are traveling at Walt Disney World or watching any sort of television show with the resorts in it. When I visited Walt Disney World I was amazed at the different resorts and all that they had to offer. We stayed at one of resorts that had smaller sections sort of like one floor in a regular hotel but clustered all over the grounds. Ours was connected to one of the pools. I also have seen multiple of the other hotels and they are all different but made with the Disney promise of showing character and detail with a purpose.

Some of the things that are relayed in the video are:

  • Since Disney wants every type of family to be able to experience Disney, the place where dreams come true, they have a variety of different resorts
    • Value resorts
    • High end resorts
    • Character resorts
    • And much more
  • Because a lot of people travel to the parks from a long distance there is a lot of free transportation
    • From the airport to the parks
    • From the airport to your resorts
    • From parks to resorts
    • From resorts to parks
    • From parks to parks
  • There is always enough food to go around
    • Mickey novelty snacks
    • Gourmet restaurants
    • Quick food stands
    • Fun themed restaurants
  • And much more
All of the items in the video are very relevant for families, business owners and spring breakers that need to know what Disney has that makes it one of the most spectacular places on Earth. Most of these items that I learned in this video I could not believe. Disney takes so much time in doing the research for all of the ideas and details that go into the color on the walls, fixtures in the rooms and theme of the whole resort. I cannot believe what all goes into this but this again goes to show how dedicated and practiced the Disney team really is. Disney is also doing a lot of audience research to make sure that what they are spending time and money on is worth it to make their customers happy. There is also all of the marketing and advertising to their audiences. Finally Disney is always doing the evaluation step and making changes as they see fit to make their  Disney experience.

This is all related back to the public relations field and following the steps. This process is very straight forward and easy but when you add it to the already existing process that Disney goes through everyday it gets very complicated. I believe that Disney is doing a great job at making each resort unique and very much targeted to the specific audience that they are trying to reach. I do not think that they need to change a thing.

Disney is doing great things when it comes to customer service and it is obvious because of the vast numbers of visitors that they have travel here every year. With this being said I think that being a part of this wonderful company is something that anyone would be happy to except whether it be in the park, corporation or the hospitality sector of resorts.

That is all for now but next up I will show you some comparisons of all the resorts at Walt Disney World: Where Dreams Come True.

"The Disney Vault" Disney's Public Relations Strategy

With in the Disney Company there are a lot of aspects that 'Make Dreams Come True.' Some of these aspects are the parks and how you can interact with the characters, watching the shows on Disney Channel, and of course enjoying the wide array of movies. With that being said the first Disney movie that can out was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, 1938. This movie came out seventy-six years ago. The movies continued to come out into theaters for the many years to come. Disney thought of an amazing strategy for how the movies could be enjoyed from generation to generation and to not have to discount them after being on the shelves for a month or so. The idea was called the "Disney Vault."

The "Disney Vault" is the term used by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment for its policy of putting home video releases of Walt Disney Animation Studios's animated features onmoratorium. Each Disney film is available for purchase for a limited time, after which it is put "in the vault" and not made available in stores for several years until it is once again released. (Wikipedia)

This video explains the ingenious decision that Disney made to re purpose the film to make it better for the future generations to view.

USA Today stated, "You create anticipation, and you have the chance to still charge full price," he says. "If you keep it out on shelves, the only option you have is to keep repricing it, lower and lower."  http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2006-02-06-bambi_x.h

With this being said I believe that this is a great idea that Disney came up with long ago. I do not think that it is all about getting people's money for the movies. I think that it is there for every generation to be able to enjoy the movies that the Disney corporation produced years ago again and again. My mom had most of the VHS copies of the Disney movies and now I am collecting my own DVD copies so that I can share them with my children and have them enjoy the movies as much as I did.

This is great for Disney's public relations and marketing departments because there is a constant talk about what movie will be released next and what changes or features have they added. Again I think that this is a great thing that Disney did and I too am waiting for the next movie to come out of "the vault."

Work Life Balance In The Work Place

When thinking of finding a job in the public relations/ communication field I am also always on the look out for positions that are offering a benefit of paid time off, the ability to work from home if needed and a great work life balance strategy. These are important things that I look at when I am thinking about deciding where I will accept a job at. Many companies are advertising the fact that they can allow their employees to be able to have that flexibility in the workplace. This is a great thing because sooner than later there will be a time when the jobs where you are stuck in an office all the time will be the ones to avoid because there are bigger and better things out there. Here is a Ted Talk about "How to make work-life balance work."

The definition of work life balance on Wikipedia is a concept including proper prioritizing between "work" (career and ambition) and "lifestyle" (health, pleasure, leisure, family and spiritual development/meditation). This is combining a lot of different aspects into the definition. When I first thought of this topic I just thought of it as that the employee gets more time off and gets to work from home but after doing the research it is a lot more involved. Here are some things that can also be involved:

  • Leaving your work at work
  • Not checking work email after hours or weekends
  • Being able to leave work early to be with children
  • Put downtime into your schedule
  • Drop activities that sap your time and energy
  • Get moving
  • Rethink errands
  • Remember relaxation goes a long way
  • Being able to schedule Dr visits during work time
These tips were from a variety of resources and detailed in the video. I think that these are great tips for all employees who also have a family or young people that are going to want a family in the future. I also think that these are great tips and ways to manage your work life balance.

These tips that I have learned and researched are something that I think all employers should have. Here are some examples of what Disney has to offer in their work life balance package.
  • Take family for free into the parks
  • Other park discounts
  • Generous benefits
  • Great training
  • And man more
Like I said before companies are getting a lot better at adding these types of benefits to their benefits package so look for them and ask about them so you will not get over stressed or over worked.

You received the job offer.. Now what?

We all are looking to fnd the perfect job with great benefits and a nice starting salary. Right after graduation the first offer way seem to be perfect but there are still some questions that you should ask before accepting what seems like the perfect opportunity. Here are some tips and questions from, US News and World Report, that students should ask before accepting any job to make sure it is what you expected and what you thought it would be.

1. Am I clear on my day to day tasks?
2. Do I know how my success will be judged and determined?
3. Will I be able to excel or advancement at this workplace?
4. Do I know what sort of culture I will be working in?
5. Do I know all of the details of the compensation package including salary, benefits, insurance and paid time off?
6. Do I know what type of manager I will be working for?
7. How does this job fit in my overall career path?

All of these questions are good to think about and ask yourself so you know you are accepting the job offer for the right reasons. If you are satisfied with all of the answers to these seven questions then accept the job and enjoy your time spent at the organization.

If you are not satisfied with any of the answers to these seven questions then you should possibly rethink that position or job offer. I think that everyone should be happy with the place that they work and do what they love, knowing the answers to these questions will only help when making sure that you are happy in your work.

Other things that I would add to the list of questions that you should ask before accepting a job offer is things including:
  • What is your work-life balance policy?
  • What is your policy on working from home?
  • What are the other opportunities while working in this town or community?
  • If you are moving to the job you could ask questions including:
    • What is the community like?
    • Does it have good schooling?
    • Are the neighborhoods safe?
I think that if all of these things are answered and you feel good about them then the job will be a good fit. There is always other questions that individuals will have so feel free to add to your own list and make sure that the job you accept is a great fit for you and your lifestyle.
